Waking up to an unexpected snowfall was a beautiful way to greet the last day of 2009.

UNCLE!
I concede defeat, sort of. My 50-50-50 got the better of me, and I have given myself permission to officially abandon it. While I am disappointed that I didn’t complete the project as I intended, I am very glad I gave it a try. I definitely achieved my primary goal, which was to make sure I stayed engaged with photography without the structure of class assignments. I am willing to cut myself a little slack with the execution. Besides, how much does anyone really want to see me documenting my plumbing problems for my landlord? And I have to admit, that has been dominating my life much too much lately. But really, 24 days of complaints before the plumber came out, and then the problem was fixed in less than an hour? I digress…project attempted, project abandoned, mea culpa. I think I’ll try again though next year, maybe a project on orange things, or things with fur….I am taking suggestions….Bueller…Bueller…
Creatures in trees
I started out the day trying to take pictures of some squirrels in the trees outside my house for my 50-50-50 project. They were not happy with my presence, as I was apparently standing in prime nut gathering territory. Given that it was freezing outside, I gave up pretty easily, and wasn’t too happy with my results.
However, later that day I headed to the Conowingo Dam to check out the eagles and herons that winter there – very cool. Haven’t had time to process all the pictures yet, but am pretty happy with how they turned out, despite my lack of super-telephoto lenses. I made due with my 55-250 lens, though I was a bit envious of the guys carrying around a $5,000 camera body with a $6,000 lens attached. I think that is more than my car is currently worth (but at least the car is paid for)!
